Roo Lester will offer a variety of Scandinavian dance basics, Polskor, and gammaldans variants. A favorite dance instructor and inspiring dance partner across the country and beyond, Roo's special basics session Friday is a great way to start the weekend!
Fiddle workshops will include and focus on small group/ensemble playing, new material, fiddling for dancers, building common repertoire, playing with appropriate styling tunes already under one's fingers. Workshops will be offered at various learning paces; groupings will depend on numbers and experience of participants. Beginning fiddlers should be comfortable with some basic gammaldans repertoire. Tunes will be taught by ear; tape recorders are recommended. There will be several opportunities for small ensembles to play for dancing. All fiddlers are required to have the Listening Tape. Compiled by Paul Dahlin for listening purposes prior to the workshop, the tape will include 9-12 tunes, many of which may be taught in the workshops. Please register by Oct. 12 in order to receive one ahead.
Dance workshops: Roo's workshops will include a focus on Rättvikspolska,
new gammaldans variants, work on polska styling, and dancing with the music.
