The next meeting of the Chaos and Complex Systems Discussion Group will
take place on 30 July at noon on the Terrace. We will discuss the 2024
presidential campaign. Damien has forwarded the following for us to
ponder:
"The entire presidential race, I think, has shifted in a truly chaotic dimension in one week.
-
Kamala Harris' team has raised over 200 million dollars (mostly from small donors).
-
The 'swing States
(Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Arizona)', have
shifted from an 8% or more lead for the Republicans, down to a virtually
statistical tie with the Democrats.
-
For the first time in weeks, "the news cycle"
didn't foist the inane, daily mutterings of Trump & Company;
Kamala's ideas dominated the airways.
-
The Republican VP, JD Vance's comments on the
role of women startled the media, sounding like a character from
Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel.
Thus, what I suggest is that each of us bring to the table your
views, comments, and caveats, on what you think is happening. Is
this shift for real? Is it only the press 'picking low-hanging fruit"?
Can this change be sustained? What the hell is going
on?"
