A Smorgasbord of Channelers near Jane Roberts entry] Channeling is a process in which people claim to obtain information from an external source such as a disembodied being. Sometimes, a channeler appears to go into a trance to relay information from the source to observers. Channeling can expresses itself as "automatic speaking" or "automatic writing" and seems to be as old as human history. Often, the channeler's speech and mannerism change when they are in contact with the entity being channeled. Skeptics suggest that today's popular "channelers" label their messages as "channelings" from an ancient and wise human as way to get more attention for their messages. Channeling is indirectly referred to throughout the Bible. The New Testament mentions it favorably, as in Mark 16:17 or Acts 19:6, where it is considered a gift of the Holy Spirit, and unfavorably in the Old Testament (Isaiah 8:19, 29:4) where it is regarded as the deceit of spirits. When King Saul consults with the witch of Endor, Saul is able to communicate with the ghost of prophet Samuel through the witch who channels his voice. Some of you may be aware of some of the more famous modern channelers such as JZ Knight and Jane Roberts, whom I discussed in the main section. These channelers suggest that other spirits speak through them and give detailed information about the world, the future, and philosophy.
