JKASC Awards

• The Don Holly Award is given annually to the most spirited cyclist. Previous winners have earned the award by:
  • Biking from Madison to the farm the day before the big ride
  • Riding an extra 30 mile loop during the day
  • Whistling non-stop up a genuinely steep hill
  • Bringing a cardboard cut-out of self for the Wyalusing group photo (to alleviate the need to rest at the rest stop).

• The Iron-Sow Award for completing the JKASC on the biggest beast of a bike
  • 2007: ?
  • 2006: Bruce Broker; somebody buy this guy a helmet!
  • 2005: Scott Anderson and John Sarff: For riding the classic Schwinn World Tour, with kickstand.
  • 2004: Bruce Broker; impressive looking kick-stand. But still no shirt or helmet.
  • 2003: Gennady Fiksel; not the heaviest bike to win the prize, but he did carry Toni's shoes.
  • 2002: Bruce Broker; Good thing he was on a mountain bike when he took out that woodchuck. Going down a steep hill. On gravel. Without wearing a shirt. Or a helmet.
  • 2001: Scott Anderson; the computer alone was enough to win the prize.
  • 2000: Richard Osbaldiston; first rider to set out on a mountain bike.
  • 1999: No winner. It would have been Don Holly but he hates it when we pick on his pre-Nixon machine.
• The "We're honored by your presence" Award for making the effort to be at the JKASC
  • 2007: ?

  • 2005: Scott Anderson-- 200 miles, Blaine, MN.
  • 2004: Ted Biewer-- 1200 miles from Princeton
  • 2003: Scott Anderson-- 200 miles; we look forward to when all 3 kids can ride in a trailer behind your bike.
  • 2002: Ted Biewer-- 1200 miles from Princeton
  • 2001: Scott, Ann and Samantha Anderson-- 200 miles.
  • 2000: Richard Osbaldiston- 500 miles
  • 1999: Eilene Peters, Marty Broeske, Heidi Schmidt, Steve Dittman-- Chicago area.
• The "Holy Shit!" Award for the least amount of saddle time prior to the JKASC or an otherwise similarly impressive feat of cycling prowess
  • 2007: ?
  • 2006: Mike Kaufman: This award can be won by invoking its name loudly and often.
  • 2005: Ralph Suechting; first century, and on a 10-speed (no less, no more).
  • 2004: Gretchen Suechting; even though she rides like a girl. Ted Biewer; 42x21 gear ratio, AND he rides like a girl.
  • 2003: Cary Forest; first century in 15 years.
  • 2002: Stefan Gerhardt; That guy rides a lot!
  • 2001: Mike Clark; 133 miles on a mountain bike.
  • 2000: Marty Broeske; That guy is fast.
  • 1999: Jay Anderson; 80 total miles of training. and Heidi Schmidt; fazed by nothing.
• The John C. Wright Grit Award to the rider who digs deep to keep on pedalling. Winner is given a handful of sand in their spaghetti dinner.

  • 2006: Tony Wimmers: It's all in the pacing.
  • 2005: Skip Holschbach: for a new and exciting way to dehydrate on a 100 mile bike ride; Immodium tossed in the with sand for him.
  • 2004: Aaron Backer; for battling all day long and making it in. And Paul Wilhite was also awarded the ceremonial sand, although he opted to sprinkle some of it into his ground-up elbow and knee.
  • 2003: Bruce Broker-- sounded like he was going to stay in Steuben for a few days; but he kept going and finished strong.
  • 2002: Michael Woermann, that guy just kept on riding... and he didn't look so well.
  • 2001: Chris O'Dell Rode the whole thing in need of some knee surgeries.
  • 2000: Adam Bayliss; despite almost yakking
  • 1999: John Wright; for battling cramps
• The 1st Century Award for those people who ride their first century on the JKASC
  • 2007: ?
  • 2006: Mike Kaufman, Tony Wimmers
