The Last Gaspé Band's Tenth Anniversary Dance

The Last Gaspé Band
played its first gig in November, 1987. The event was the Madison Civic
Center's International Holiday Festival. Shortly afterwards, the band started
a monthly contra dance in Madison, WI that is still running. The band has
played numerous midwestern contra dances and has worked with a variety
of local and of-out-town callers over the years.
The band also toured the East Coast in 1995 and 1996. Stops on these
tours included contra dances in Baltimore, MD, Glen Echo, MD, Shepherdstown,
WV, Cambridge, MA and Freeport, ME. Last Gaspé
will be returning to the East Coast for the Northfield, MA Dawn Dance December
31, 1997 and the Cambridge, MA Thursday Dance on April 23, 1998.
Please join the Last Gaspé
and caller Marilee Standifer for a celebration of ten years of music and
contra dancing on November 8, 1997. The event takes place at Grace Episcopal
Church, 116 West Washington St, in Madison, WI.
Instruction for beginners is at 7:30 P.M. Dancing begins at 8:00 P.M.
The caller teaches the dances, which consist of both traditional and recently
composed contras.
